This piece is my first 3d painting on canvas. I used my favorite worn out sweater and t-shirt to create the underwater cave. I had to use a couple of layers of glue to harden the fabric. I remember spending two hours playing around with the fabric until I felt content with the textures I created. Textures are very important in my artwork, because they are in one way or form describing my emotions. The large smooth spaces between the fabric is supposed to represent tranquility and inner peace within me as the tight fabric signifies the pressures and stress of my life. The black color of the cave is suppose to represent this dark state of mind, a dark space that is between myself and the world (my interaction with my environment). My intention is to present desire and hope through the white and blue paint. White paint signifies a divine intervention. The presence of God. While the blues represents the sadness and pain I carry. This 40 in x 30 inch painting is meant to be seen as if we are looking up at the entrance of a dark cave, and are drawn to the light. The essence of the painting speaks of "the Hope", la esperanza, of something better in the future through faith in a higher power, God, during the rough moments in my life.
